Monotex® PTFE is a monofilament non-absorbable, sterile surgical suture composed of a strand of polytetrafluoroethylene, a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene. PTFE sutures are white.
Monotex® PTFE is an excellent suture choice for dental bone grafting and implant procedures. It’s clean, comfortable and has little to no package memory, which results in excellent handling and knot security. Our PTFE was designed to be an ultra-soft, high density surgical suture.
Characteristics
- Ultra smooth surface; less porous than other PTFE sutures
- Excellent security with snug and flattened knots
- No memory
- Proprietary construction reduces potential for bacterial migration into the surgical site
- Soft and comfortable for patients
Indications
Monotex® PTFE surgical suture is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including dental, general surgical procedures and repair of the dura mater. Monotex® PTFE sutures are not indicated for use in microsurgery, ophthalmic procedures, or peripheral neural tissues. Monotex® PTFE suture is provided sterile as a single use device.
Actions
Monotex® PTFE sutures have been shown to elicit a minimal tissue reaction. Monotex® PTFE sutures, being non-absorbable, are not absorbed by the body or subject to weakening caused by enzymes or the presence of infection.
Tensile Strength
Monotex® PTFE sutures are non-absorbable and no significant change in strength retention is known to occur in vivo.
Sterilization
Ethylene oxide.
Packaging
Monotex® is a nonabsorbable monofilament. It is white and is available in (USP) sizes 6-0 through 5 (metic sizes 0.7-7). The suture is supplied sterile in precut lengths attached to various needle types in one-dozen boxes, or non-needled on ligating reels.
